ERIC SCHMIDT, MSSW, LCSW, MBA – Chief Executive Officer
Eric Schmidt has worked in the behavioral health and substance abuse field for the past 20 years. He served primarily in key executive level qpositions for community-based behavioral health care/substance abuse treatment organizations.
Eric boasts both a Masters of Science in Social Work and a Masters of Business Administration. Besides his business and administrative success, Eric, as a Licensed Mental Health Therapist, personally provides a variety of clinical services, such as individual, group, and family treatment, diagnostic assessments, and psychosocial assessments utilizing a range of techniques and theoretical designs. Further, Eric is adjunct faculty for the University of Utah School of Social Work, where he teaches a variety of clinical and professional development courses.
He has utilized marketing, sales, and management skills to dramatically amplify revenues and operations for many of the agencies for which he has worked. He is excited to be at the helm of New Roads.
ROBERT SORIA – Vice President of Operations – Catering for the Cause
Robert’s experience as a Restaurant Executive and Business Manager
brings to New Roads a dynamic touch of Operations and the personal
feelings. With the loss of son due to drug addiction,he understands
how to speak with Parents and Clients openly and with sincerity.He
feels a connection and desire to be a small part in each and every
client’s recovery.
DON BECK - Residential Program Director
While Don Beck has been a member of the New Roads staff for some time, he accepted the position of Clinical Director in October, 2011. Dr. Beck received his doctoral degree from the University of Utah in 1990. As a licensed psychologist, he has enjoyed a range of academic and clinical roles including residential treatment, private practice, hospital and clinic settings, and both graduate and undergraduate teaching. Dr. Beck worked with the Utah State Department of Health in Family Health Services for many years serving clients with medically related mental health concerns and their families.
As Clinical Director, Don welcomes and enjoys the opportunity and privilege to work directly with clients and their families as well as cooperatively contribute to the overall quality of services New Roads Treatment Centers provides to the young adults courageously seeking positive changes in their lives.
Dr. Beck and his wife recently celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary. They have three adult children and two adorable grand daughters.
DR. TROY LUNCEFORD – Medical Director
Dr. Lunceford is a partner in Central Utah Clinic since August 2007 and has an
Internal Medicine clinic in Payson, Utah. As a Hospitalist he covers both Mountain
View Hospital (Payson, Utah) and Timpanogos Hospital (Orem, Utah). He is also the
Chairman of Medicine at Mountain View Hospital.
Directorships include: Renu Treatment Center Substance Abuse and Recovery, Love
Hospice, Rhema Home Health.
Education: University of Nevada – Reno, Internal Medicine Residency, Saint George’s
University School of Medicine, Brigham Young University Bachelor of Science, Ricks College Associates Degree.

ANTHONY T. ALONZO, DMFT Candidate, LMFT, CFLE -
Transistional Program Director
Upon completing his Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from
Brigham Young University, he gained experience working with at risk teens
and their families in a residential treatment setting. In 2005, he began his
doctoral studies at Loma Linda University.
Throughout his professional experience, he has been privileged to work
with individuals, couples, and families within a variety of therapeutic
settings. He has delivered services at community clinics, residential
treatment centers, in-home proctor families, emotional growth schools,
adolescent in-home aftercare, non-profit agencies, and private practice.
He has spent many years working with at risk teens presenting with a variety of problems including stealing, gang
involvement, parental disrespect, poor academic performance, and drug use. He also enjoys working with distressed
couples and families, particularly issues related to intimacy, divorce, and adjustment.
While many therapists feel overwhelmed, stressed, and burned out, he enjoys joining with his clients as they engage
in the work necessary to resolve their presenting problems. His particular modality of therapy draws upon the
established approaches including Experiential Family Therapy, Structural – Strategic Family Therapy, Gestalt, and
Emotion Focused Therapy. He relies upon the therapeutic relationship to create the safety needed for clients to face
the difficult work they need to do in order to overcome their presenting problems.
DEVON ROMO – Admissions & Outreach
Devon has worked in the treatment field for more than a
decade. Her genuine and demonstrated empathy in the
admissions process puts both clients and families at ease as
they embrace treatment. She feels extremely grateful to have
the opportunity to work with such an exciting program!
GAY JACKSON, RN, BS – Admissions & Outreach
Coordinator
Gay has over 30 years experience working as a registered nurse and
has spent over half of this as a certified Psychiatric and Mental Health
Nurse. She has had experience in managing acute adult psychiatric
and detox services, as well as crisis intervention and triage in a local
hospital. Over the past 9 years, she worked in an adolescent
residential treatment center where she was the Director of Admissions
and Associative Executive Director.
Gay is noted for her compassion and sensitivity in working with
clients and families. She is very excited about the opportunity to work
with the entire treatment team at New Roads.
Gay received her Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing from Idaho
State University.
JESSIE DENNERLINE, MBA – Director of Business Development
Jessie entered the treatment community in 2010 after losing her father to addiction related health problems. She holds an MBA in International Business and has a special talent for marketing. In her undergraduate years she attended the University of Utah and the University of Arizona, where she holds a Bachelors Degree in Political Science. Prior to working with New Roads, Jessie spent several years facilitating groups at a grief and loss center for children in Arizona. She loves to ski and hike in her spare time and is an avid reader.
JAMES GIBSON – Insurance & Admissions Specialist
J.D. Gibson, a Life Coach and Admissions Specialist, has been
associated with the field of substance abuse and addiction for a
number of years learning the ins and out of this disease through
education and personal experience. He comes to new roads to
redefine treatment methods and build a new path of recovery to gain
better results in the field of addiction. Through passion and drive,
J.D. has committed himself and has made this his life’s work helping
recovering addicts reach goals that once were seen as unattainable
by the addict mind. J.D. helps clients understand the fundamentals of
living a healthy and sober lifestyle while assisting clients in building
a strong sense of self and preparing them for the world that lies
ahead in sobriety.
J.D. brings a new path to maximize individual treatment while being
on the front line as our Admissions Specialist helping bring new
residence into the facility working with families of potential clients and creating a positive environment for clients as
they first enter the therapeutic community.
It is through the passions, desires and personal experience with addiction that J.D. gives clients a new meaning of
hope and through specialized programming and individualized treatment planning success is inevitable.
Jordan Harmon, LCSW – Therapist

Carl Rogers’ work in developing what he came
to call the Person Centered Approach has
impacted Jordan as a therapist, a husband, a
father, a friend, and as a person in general. The
philosophy that guides his efforts and hopefully
his life is the powerful idea that understanding
and accepting one’s self and one another is the
basis for healing and growth.
Though he utilizes a variety of therapeutic interventions with his clients, he believes the most effective
intervention is that of fostering a therapeutic relationship. Such a relationship allows those involved to
experience genuine empathy, acceptance, and unconditional positive regard.
He earned a graduate degree in social work from the University of South Carolina with an emphasis in
individual, family, and group therapy. During internships there and since that time he has been fortunate
to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and in a variety of professional settings. Jordan has
provided therapy for those suffering from the following issues: addiction, depression, anxiety, eating
disorders, effects of trauma, relationship difficulties, anger, grief and loss, and managing chronic mental
illness.
SAGE O’BRIEN, MSW, CSW, LSAC – Therapist
Sage has diverse experience working in the field of substance abuse and
mental health. She has held clinical and managerial positions in residential,
wilderness, and intensive outpatient treatment settings. For the past five
years she served as lead counselor and program supervisor for an
outpatient clinic in the Salt Lake area.
Sage holds duo licenses as a mental health therapist and substance abuse
counselor.
She received her Masters degree in Social Work from the University of
Utah, where she also completed graduate certification at the school’s
prestigious Alcohol and Drug Treatment Training program. She earned her
Bachelors of Arts in Mass Communications at the University of California,
Davis.
Sage muses that her vast life experiences have provided her with a solid foundation and a unique personal
perspective for working in this field. She believes it is a great privilege and honor to work as a guide and therapist
with individuals who are seeking a new direction on their path. She strives to meet her clients where they are in their
lives, providing a safe, structured, and nurturing environment where they can explore their external and internal
worlds. She assists her clients to identify their beliefs, goals, strengths, and challenges and then focuses them on
effecting the changes needed to bring balance to their lives while achieving their recovery and life goals.
Mindfulness practice and metaphor are two of her favorite tools. Sage facilitates the weekly outpatient and equine
assisted therapy groups at New Roads and is currently working on her EAGALA certification.

CHRISTINE LAWLER, LMFTA – Therapist
Christine completed her Master’s degree in Marriage and Family 
Therapy at Brigham Young University. She is also an adjunct
faculty member for Argosy University’s School of Psychology,
where she teaches a variety of clinical and professional
development courses.
Christine provides individual, group, and family treatment, and
has training and experience in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy,
Emotionally Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing,
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Solution
Focused Therapy, and Structural Family Therapy. Christine
enjoys helping young adults with addictions and other
co-occurring disorders. She utilizes a variety of interventions
from a range of theoretical designs, and uses her energetic
personality and warmth to add a dynamic touch to her
therapeutic style.
Christine focuses on emotions as a vital, and often ignored or
repressed component of the healing process. Cognitive thinking
errors, emotional awareness, healthy emotional regulation,
attachment, family relationships, assertiveness, and underlying
self-concept and self-esteem are common issues addressed to
better understand client’s barriers to living fulfilling, complete lives. She loves embarking on the journey to healing
with clients, providing a safe, secure, nurturing, and peaceful environment wherein self-discovery and healing can
happen.
FINETTE DUFOUR – Admissions & Outreach
Based in Chicago, IL, Finette has a background in Sales and Marketing and spent 17 years working with the non-profit community. Personal circumstances led to her interest in the fields of Addiction and Mental Health. She has spent over a decade learning to navigate through the maze of treatment options, and volunteering in this field with both parents and adolescents. Finette is passionate about helping families affected by addiction and mental illness, and is thrilled to be part of the New Roads admissions team.
ANNA MARASCO, CSW, MSW – Therapist
Anna has a diverse background in the fields of mental health, substance
abuse, and therapeutic recreation. Anna obtained her bachelor’s from the
University of Utah in parks, recreation, and tourism with emphasis in
experiential education. And, since she is a die-hard Utes fan, went back to
the University of Utah and obtained her Master’s in Social Work. Anna’s
specialty is in equine assisted psychotherapy (EAP) and is certified with
the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA) as a
mental health professional and equine specialist. She also holds certification in equine therapy and autism with the Horse Boy Foundation. Anna has developed equine therapy programs in Utah for people with disabilities, and in New Mexico for juvenile offenders with addiction, emotional, and behavioral issues.
Anna has a passion for working with young adults struggling with mental health and addiction issues. Anna’s
understanding, empathic, gentle, and genuine love for her clients assist her in creating a safe and comfortable
environment. She utilizes an empowering approach with clients, encouraging them to take control of their treatment,
their recovery, and their lives. Anna utilizes creative and experiential practices to engage clients with a variety of
issues and backgrounds.
In Anna’s spare time, she enjoys collecting horses – she has rescued five; and finds excitement in horseback riding,
writing fiction and poetry, hiking, summer months, and delicious smelling candles. Probably the most exciting thing
in Anna’s life is the fact that she is working at New Roads. Anna is absolutely thrilled to have this opportunity and
is excited to witness, first hand, the amazing journeys that take place here.
LAURA JONES, MSW – Therapist
Laura is a recent graduate from the University of Utah, earning a Masters
of Social Work degree. Laura has had the opportunity to work in several
human service agencies, including the Center for Women and Children in
Crisis, the House of Hope, Renaissance Child Visitation Services, and
Valley Mental Health, and now New Roads Treatment Centers. She has a
great amount of experience working with victims of abuse and trauma,
clients with mental illness, substance abuse, families, parents, and people
in poverty. Her passion in life is to work with vulnerable populations of
people in order to empower them to be self-sustaining and independent.
Laura utilizes strengths-based, cognitive behavioral, person-centered, and
experiential therapies into practice. She is seeking out constantly new and
research-based tools to utilize in therapy.
If one word would describe Laura it would be ‘sincere’. Laura has always
strived for a meaningful and positive relationship with clients, staff, and
peers. She understands the value of building relationships based on trust
and understanding. Laura is nonjudgmental and empathic to every client
and their situation. Her mantra in life is “You cannot hate a person once you know their story”-Dr. Derezotes.
TARA GLEAVE, RN, ASN – Director of Nursing
Tara has been in the nursing field for over 13 years. As director of nursing
she oversees our drug detox center and facilitates medication management
for our residential and extended care programs as well.
Tara is licensed to see clients of all ages, and has extensive experience
working with young adults and families. In her spare time Tara enjoys
spending time with her husband and family.
SHELLIE THOMPSON – Director of Operations
Shellie has over 20 years of administrative experience as a manager and business owner. As a wife and mother of two
she is constantly going out of her way to make sure we all here at New Roads are taken care of, just like her own
family. She is responsible for communicating with insurance companies, parents of clients, and all of our staff to make
sure we are all on the same page. She understands the devastating effects addiction can have on individual’s family
and has a passion for the industry.
DOUG GERPHEIDE – Chef/Kitchen Manager
Doug grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah and went to high school at
Rowland Hall St. Marks this is where his love for the culinary arts
began. After Graduating high school Doug attended Western Culinary
Institute in Portland, Oregon and received his culinary arts degree and
later he went to The Culinary Institute of America.
After completing school he got a job at The Grand America Hotel in
Salt Lake City, Utah where he gathered a lot of his culinary experience
and knowledge. He has also worked at five star restaurants and has
been in the foodservice industry for 3 years. He enjoys the Culinary
arts because of the creativity and skills required to make amazing
dishes.
Doug loves his job at New Roads because he is touched by addiction
and this lets him help young adults change while still being able to
work in the culinary field. On his free time Doug enjoys golfing and
snowboarding.
Paul Dymock, MSW, LCSW–Therapist
Paul holds a Bachelors Degree in Human Development and a double Masters Degree in Social Work Administration and Direct Clinical Practice. This educational background gives him the unique ability to see both sides of the business and treatment spectrum. He has over 15 years experience in the behavioral health field and he has a special affinity for treating addictions. Paul is known for his ability to create a safe and trusting environment. His diverse work history includes experiences at the Family Support and Treatment Center, the Abuse and Family Counseling Center, and as the Director of Extended Care at Cirque Loge. His frequently neglected hobbies include gardening and water sports. No complaints though, his passion in Counseling.
Although he uses a multitude of clinical techniques such as Behavior Modification, Gestalt and Rational Emotive Therapy, his favorite is Sand Tray Therapy. Clients are able to identify their own strengths and weaknesses and then develop a personalized plan to manage their addictions.
A favorite therapeutic quote of Paul’s comes from Dr. Albert Schweitzer: ”Each patient carries his own doctor inside him. They come to us not knowing that truth. We are at our best when we give the doctor who resides within each patient a chance to work.”
Paul and his wife recently celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary. Together, they brag about their 5 outstanding children and they spoil their 3 amazing grandchildren. This genuine love carries over to his clients and co-workers: Paul’s care and compassion is contagious.
