New Roads Treatment Centers offers mental health care to our clients throughout all of our addiction rehab programs from drug detox to residential care to transitional sober living with day treatment. Research shows that individuals struggling with some form of addiction are around two times as often to be diagnosed with a mental health or personality disorder. Because symptoms are very similar from both substance abuse and mental health disorders it can be very difficult to diagnose them and determine which is the foundation.
At New Roads, our master levels therapists are experienced in both drug and alcohol addiction and in mental health. We have a certified addictionologist on staff for clients to meet with for psychiatric needs when appropriate. This level of care can be critical for a client that has went years with an undiagnosed psychiatric disorder while self medicating. It can be very advantageous and empowering to a client that may not be aware that they have a mental health condition. Understanding how we function as individuals comes from understanding the conditions we must live with.
New Roads Treatment Centers understands the role of mental health disorders when dealing with addiction. We have programming that facilitates recovery and growth when individuals affected by a mental health disorder individually or combined with a substance abuse disorder.
To understand how to support our clients we take a look at past history of any mental health challenges, any psychiatric diagnosis, med and psychiatric management. We know how important gaining knowledge of your brain chemistry and how it is affects by internal and external events. It’s also the core of our existence as humans to learn about our emotional makeup, so your specifically assigned therapist will help you set specific mental/emotional goals – what do you need to work on? What do you already know in this area?
An important part of mental health stability is emotional regulation – by understanding how we interpret events we can spend less time in emotional mind traps and open to a whole new world of seeing people. We help you learn different kind of techniques to regulate your emotions that incorporate principles of mindfulness, distress tolerance and a process of “interpersonal effectiveness.
